Perfect Sugar Cookie Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 cup 225g unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup 200g granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 cups 375g all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Sprinkles or colored sugar optional
Instructions:
In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy
Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined
In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined
Divide the dough into two equal portions and shape each portion into a disc
Wrap the discs in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour
Preheat your oven to 350F 175C and line baking sheets with parchment paper
Remove the dough from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes to soften slightly
On a lightly floured surface, roll out one disc of dough to about 1/4 inch thickness
Use cookie cutters to cut out desired shapes and transfer them to the prepared baking sheets
If desired, decorate the cookies with sprinkles or colored sugar
Bake the cookies for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are just beginning to turn golden brown
Remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely
Repeat the rolling, cutting, and baking process with the remaining dough
Once the cookies are completely cooled, store them in an airtight container
