Grandpas Sauerkraut and Kielbasa
For a classic comfort food, try Grandpas Sauerkraut and Kielbasa. It has the smoky flavors of kielbasa and the tangy goodness of sauerkraut. This recipe brings warmth and tradition to your table by simulating it just right.
Ingredients:
- 1 lb kielbasa, sliced into rounds
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 lbs sauerkraut, drained and rinsed
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon caraway seeds
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
Instructions:
Warm up the oil in a big pan or Dutch oven over medium-low heat
Put in the sliced kielbasa and cook it until both sides are browned
Take it out of the pan and set it aside
Put minced garlic and sliced onions in the same pan
Cook the onions in oil until they get soft
Add the sauerkraut that has been drained, along with the brown sugar, caraway seeds, salt, and pepper
Put the chicken broth back into the pan after adding the browned kielbasa
Cover and cook on low heat for 30 to 40 minutes
This will let the flavors blend and the sauerkraut get soft
If you need to, change the seasonings and serve hot
